Our Policies & Procedures

In order to ensure the health and safety of our children, families, volunteers and staff, we have developed a comprehensive and an itemized set of Policies & Procedures for resuming our Children’s Program.

We are committed to following our new restrictions and limitations. However, this continues to be an evolving situation and Policies & Procedures are subject change. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and communicate any changes as they occur.

We ask that you please continue to pray, and that you remain flexible and patient as we do our best to provide a safe environment for everyone. Thank you for working together to protect the well-being of our church community!

Children's Ministry

Program Registration

Worship service attendance is limited to 40 attendees and Children’s Program attendance is limited to 15 children. To ensure that we do not exceed our capacity, and to allow for contact tracing in the event of exposure to the virus, it is necessary to register online to attend a worship service as well as a scheduled Children’s Program. However, on Sundays where there is no Children’s Program, children will be seated with their parents in the sanctuary.

Masks for Children

We are requiring the use of masks for all children. We ask parents to ensure that their child’s mask fits snuggly over their child’s nose, mouth and chin, and that it does not slide below the nose when talking and with normal movement. We also encourage parents to ensure that their children have achieved proficiency and independence in putting on their mask safely, in order to help us prevent the spread of illness.  Please note that face shields are not an acceptable alternative, unless approved due to a medical condition prior to arrival.

Masks for Staff & Volunteers

We are requiring all of our staff and volunteers to wear face masks. Eye protection goggles and face shields will also be available. Clear-window face masks may be worn as the children’s ability to see the teacher’s face is of utmost importance for comprehension and language development.

Handling Children's Face Masks Procedures

If a child requires assistance to put on a face mask, we will:

  1. Wash our hands or use hand sanitizer or put on disposable gloves before touching the child’s mask.

  2. Use the ear loops to handle the mask to assist putting the mask on a child.

  3. Wash our hands or use hand sanitizer after providing assistance.

Hand Washing & Sanitizing

Hand washing or hand sanitizing will be done at the following times in the indicated manners for all children, volunteers and staff:

  • At arrival to the program: handwashing will be required of all children, volunteers and staff.

  • After arts and crafts: handwashing or sanitizing required.

  • After bathroom use: handwashing required.

  • Before leaving the program: hand sanitizing required.

Bathroom Procedures

We ask that you take your child to the bathroom before dropping off in our program. If your child needs to use the bathroom, a volunteer will contact you to take them. We will be required to follow the DVCC’s Restroom Use Policy.

Items from Home

During this time, the only item allowed from home is your child’s Bible, please ensure to label it with your child’s name.  Please do not send any other items with your child, including bags, backpacks, toys, etc.

Food & Drink Policy

We will not be serving snack at this time. We will provide bottled water for each child. We urge parents to ensure that their children eat and drink before coming to services and that they have a snack and a drink ready for the way home.

Social Distancing

We will make every effort to ensure that your children are interacting and playing safely together.  To the best of our abilities, we will be grouping children by family and spacing seating appropriately. We will also provide individual supplies, such as pencils, glue sticks, etc., for each child, which will be disinfected after being used. However, we will not refuse to touch, hold, or hug any child for comfort and reassurance as this is essential for their socio-emotional well-being and development but in doing so we will take every precaution to ensure everyone’s safety.

Cleaning & Disinfecting

We will continue to follow our normal cleaning and disinfecting procedures, but will include:

  • Disinfecting all tables and chairs at the end of the program.

  • Disinfecting all toys and supplies as needed and at the end of the program.

Child Becomes Sick During Our Program

If your child becomes sick during our program, the child will be immediately removed from the classroom setting. A chair will be set up for the child in hallway, where the child will wait for the parent while being supervised by staff or volunteer.  You will be notified to pick your child up immediately, and after ensuring you have transportation, you and your child will be requested to leave the premises promptly. A child, volunteer or staff member will be excluded if they present symptoms of a COVID-like illness. The chart below defines the criteria for a COVID-19 like illness:

  • We will be considering a fever as a temperature of 100.4 F or higher.

  • Our 24-hour fever free without the use of medication and 48-hour antibiotic use policy will still hold true for all non-COVID-19 related illnesses.

  • Once a sick child is picked up from our program, all areas and items touched will be cleaned and disinfected immediately.

Drop-Off & Pick-Up Procedures

The safety and security of the children attending DVCC Children’s Ministry programs is our highest priority. To ensure the security of the children, DVCC Staff and Volunteers will adhere to the following procedures:

  • Drop-off begins 15 minutes before the start of any worship service or event where children’s program is being offered.

  • Each child must be accompanied by a person 16 years old or older when dropped off.

  • Each individual child must be checked-in by a parent/ caregiver and will receive a sticker with all of their pertinent information and a 4-digit code on it.

  • Each parent/ caregiver dropping off a child will receive a similar sticker with a matching code.

  • Under no circumstance may a parent drop-off a child who has not been properly checked-in and received by a DVCC Children’s Ministry team member.

  • Under no circumstance may a parent leave a child in any of our classrooms unattended.

  • Please be prompt and pick up your child up from our programs immediately after the service.

  • To eliminate congestion in the hallways, doorways and classrooms, we ask that only one parent/ caregiver comes to pick up their child.

  • Each parent/ caregiver must provide the sticker with the matching code of their child at the time of pick-up.

  • All stickers will be collected before the child is dismissed.

  • A child will never be released to anyone but their assigned parent/ caregiver or authorized pick-up person 16 years old or older.

  • Under no circumstance will a child be released to a sibling or another child under 16 years of age even with the sticker with the matching code.

  • Under no circumstances will a child be allowed to leave any of our programs or events alone.

To the best of our abilities, our communication will be done electronically via email, text message or phone call.  We want to remain in good communication with you, so please make sure that your phone number and email address are up to date in order to receive important information regarding our Children’s Ministry Programs and Special Events. We encourage you to call or email the Children’s Ministry Director with any questions or concerns.
